The weepy Martha-Ann Alito made me think of "Crying Macho Man", a comic book that often skewers the adminstration, written and drawn by a friend, Jose Cabrera. (The fact that the latest drawing appeared in my inbox just before the event had nothing to do with it.)
I don't doubt that Ms. Alito's reactions were sincere, but what person of goodwill could not have doubts about the way the situation was typically reported, or of the evasive Mr. Alito?
A related aside.... I'm starting to read psychologist/philosopher Erich Fromm's seminal work "Escape From Freedom" (1941), which examines in an historical context why despite human beings longing for freedom, we fear nothing more than that freedom.
